MissingLinkProductions Newsletter Febuary 2004...

News

Welcome to the February Missing Link Newsletter. I hope you have been wrapping up warm during the cold spell (or not getting too hot for those of you in Oz).

What a busy month January was! There was not a moment’s pause between Xmas before we were straight into the launch party for Cirque du Soliel's new show which was held at the Natural History Museum. Guests were greeted by the gorgeous statues of Anonymous and the sumptuous peacocks of Bolli Darling and entertained with fire and stilts from The Wrong Size . We also had Eye Kandi's models as an artist’s body-painted canvasses. Thank you to all the performers for working so hard and to Jo and Maria for being such trusting and calm event organisers.

Days after that I went off to work at the Auto Expo in Delhi with Feeding the Fish - more details of this to follow.

Upon my return from India we were straight into the Events Show at Olympia. It was really good to meet so many of you I have typed to over the years! A huge thank you to all our performers who worked so very hard for us at the show. We had fantastic stage shows from contortionists Daniela Zocchi and Delia du Sol and their double act 'Jewel', our very own Diva of magic Romany and her cabaret magic show as well as one of our favourite street performers, innovative portrait icon artist Jon Hicks. Cyberstein the giant robot was the talk of the show and Balloonatic's large-scale carnival style balloon model costumes were also a big hit. We had wallkabout appearances from a host of colourful characters. One of my personal favourite stilt characters, Bridie the Irish tea lady from Rin Tin Tin who wooed all the gents at the show, as did Aerial Roots' Moulin Rouge stilt ladies and Larkin' About's stilt ballroom dancers. Los Kaos showcased their brand new animatronic baby stilt creature to go with their other beasties, (T)hat Juggler charmed the event and Comic Character Creations Company 'World Record Attempt at Apathy', 'Ugly Tarts', 'Rich Beggars' and 'Tart and Vicar' caused a stir. Caricatures Galore's Sarah Bailey did fantastic pictures of visitors and stall holders alike and caricaturist Andy Davey did some fantastic comic depictions of people - especially our very own much missed Luisa - it was nice to have you back for the day lass. . The Complimentary Compliments Service were flattering people left right and centre, Still Living Statues were shocking people with their beautifully statuesque and lifelike human statues, juggler Sam Veale was pleasing the crowds with his football juggling. A real hit of the event was Creature Feature's Gorillas who I had lots of fun playing with. Kameylan was there with her stilt walking naughtiness, Anonymous and their beautiful statue and walkabout costumes graced our stand, as did the beauty of Rob Horsman's crystal ball manipulation.

An extra special thank you goes out to Magic Matt, our favourite magician and pickpocket who worked his wee socks off. Thanks you also to juggler Owen Reynolds and our fantastic designer and video man Howie Bailey.

Howie has made a gorgeous job of our new brochure, which is out now. Please feel free to request a copy by clicking here.

And a different sort of congratulations to Lucy in the Sky, Claredeloon and Bureau of Silly Ideas for all having happy healthy babies! We in the office wish you all lots of happiness and long nights sleep.

One last note for performers for this month - if your prices have gone up for the new year please could you let us know now and then we can be a little bit ahead of the game instead of waiting until the enquiries come in. Many thanks.

And finally an apology to all of you who replied to the last newsletter - for some reason we got none of the usual responses back from the last newsletter - no bouncers, no unsubscribers, no comments, no emails what so ever - so please accept our apologies and resend any mail you may have tried to send through to the usual address info@circusperformers.com.

Featured of the Month

This month's featured performers have a reputation as being some of the nicest people in the business, easy to work with on every job, stunning performers and simply lovely people as well as our new cover stars - the wonderful Heir of Insanity.

Heir of Insanity have given a lot of love and support to Missing Link over the years when she was fresh faced and just out of circus school and I remember on a very personal level that the first booking I ever made for them marked what I considered to be the first realisation that I was actually really running my own business.

Heir of Insanity have taken a lot more of a playful twist over the last year or so, branching out into walkabout and creating some really funny new shows. The gorgeous flirt-about bouncy stilt half-man (or lass) half-goat characters are the new face of Missing Link and are on the front of our new brochure.

They have the fantastic wood nymph and stilt tree walkabout entitled "Treeo" who clamber around hiding and springing out and adding that natural element to every event and making outdoor events that extra bit magical.

They have a very innovative doubles hoop routine called "So..." and are just about to be out and about with a brand new doubles trapeze routine.

Heir of Insanity are most well known for their balletic balancing act "Breathe" which is a real treat to the eye and was a real hit when we worked at WOMAD last year. They can perform their acrobalance on a revolving podium emerging from an inflatable flower - a real treat for any event.

And last but not least they have their large-scale dome rig show which combines all their skills on a fantastic outdoor rig with large scale inflatable - and I can honestly say I have not laughed so much at an outdoor show for a long time.

Sound like I am selling them hard? It is because I love working with them, they are a pleasure to deal with in everything from initial phone enquiries to general rigging questions and I have never had anything other then immaculate feedback from clients who have booked them.

Website

With all my gallivanting there has not been time to add much to the website this month, though there are lots of new pictures.

Los Kaos have some new pictures of their stilt creatures added to their page.
Juggler and fire performer Browner has a new picture on his page.

Stilt wardrobe extraordinaire Curious Company have lost of new pictures of their page of the website. My favourite being the caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland sitting on his mushroom!
The fantastic old time vaudeville jugglers Curious Eyebrows have a new picture added to their listing.

Balloon modelling innovators Balloonatic's have some new pictures on their page on the site not only of their creations but also of some of the caricatures they make out of balloons of guests at parties.

And finally we have at last added our very hard workers the Comic Character Creations Company with their walkabout characters for every event, they proved their own popularity by being such a hit at the Events Show.

Gig of the Month

Gig of the month quite obviously has to be the absolute joy of working with Showspace at the Auto Expo in Delhi this month. The performers were treated with the utmost respect and the crowds coming to watch the shows were phenomenal. Thank you to Feeding the Fish for making the show such a success for TVS and to Hari and Bhaskar for being such a joy to work with. If all my jobs made me smile as much as this one I would be one very, very happy lady.

Quote of the Month

Said with a smile from everyone and anyone whenever the slightest thing did not go according to plan in India:

"Ah well, next lifetime."

Enjoy your February's

Warmest Regards

Anna
