The Big News

All our other news gets brushed aside this month with the big news that we are organising a big charity showcase in aid of circus2iraq this month.

At The Circus Space on 13th March 2004, we have an amazing Line Up of stunning acts for you to come and see. Tired of reading about our performers and never getting to see them? Well now is your chance.  A selection of the highest quality entertainers theUK has to offer are assembling on one fundraising stage for your enjoyment.

The show includes:
Mimbre – Amazing, upbeat female acrobatic trio
Caroline Parker - Inspirational signed song cabaret
The Wrong Size - Elegant aerial silks duo
Jon Hicks - The rock and roll Rolf Harris
Helen Kane - Comedy Marilyn Monroe impersonator
(T)hat Juggler - Old-time vaudeville hat juggler
Melissa Merran - Glamourous ‘Moulin Rouge’ swinging trapeze
Stickleback Plasticus - Gloriously over-enthusiastic ballroom dancers
Strawberry - Consumate clowning
Steve Falkner - Manic Mime
Tumble Circus - Dynamic doubles trapeze
Woody Bop Muddy and his record graveyard, the act that gets everyone going.

All smoothly blended together by your hosts for the evening Mr Mike Martins and Mr John Stretch, with walkabout appearances from the over flattering Complimentary Complements Service, close up magic mayhem from Sav the gorgeous statues of Anonymous, and our very own cover-flirts Heir of Insanity.

The cabaret is to raise money for the circus2iraq project which is an amazing group of entertainers who are out in Iraq right now, doing shows for people, workshops for the kids and spreading smiles to areas where they have been lacking for some time now. Obviously circus and laughter is not enough, but it is an amazing thing to be able to give. The people who are out there paid for their own travel themselves and have paid for the project out of their own cash, and I think they deserve our support in trying to make this project sustainable.
.
We look forward to seeing you there.

Featured Performer of the Month

This month's featured performer is one I am most proud to represent, Caroline Parker.

Caroline performs a fantastic selection of songs, from 'Walk on the Wild Side' to 'Wind Beneath me Wings' in British Sign Language combined with dance and mime. The barriers her performance crosses are inspirational, as even people who do not sign know the lyrics to the songs making this act accessible to all.

I first saw Caroline perform with Graeae Theatre in the acclaimed 'Last Freakshow' at the Roundhouse, which was one of the most powerful and thought provoking shows I have ever seen. Caroline has taken her one woman show 'Walking amongst Sleepers’ to the Edinburgh Fringe, is frequently seen on BBC2's 'See Hear', has just finished performing the 'Vagina Monolgues' in central London with Deafinitely Theatre, was a central character in Dawn French's 'Wild West' and has recently signed a play on Radio Four!

One of my favourite memories of Caro was the rapturous reaction she received whilst performing her infamous version of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ at Glastonbury last year and days later having people coming up to us saying how much they had enjoyed it.

You can see Caroline performing in our cabaret on 13th March.

Web Site

We are finally getting slightly more up to date with the website and bringing it more in line with our brochure.

New acts on the site this month are:

Tumble Circus - who perform dynamic doubles trapeze and have a 45 minute street show including trapeze, juggling acrobatics and silliness.

Sav - one of the few new magicians we have taken on over the past few years as his skills are so high quality. Both Sav and Tumble Circus can be seen at our cabaret this month.

Mr Dennis Teeth - musical saw extraordinaire. Rarely has an act this unique left me with such a smile on my face. From classical to theme tunes this boy can play!

Zilch - dotComedy's sister company follow in their footsteps with 'Hook, Line and Sinker' - the perfect street act for any water themed event and 'Laundry' the only street show to cover your event with over-accentuated lines of clothing.

New pictures to the website this month are:

Mr Doo with theUK's only stilt bikes!
DotComedy's talkabout show 'Newsdesk'.
Circus Fudge's stilt walking scarecrow.
Martinez & Fabrega's Bull Circus street show.
Grant Goldie with his crystal ball manipulation, juggling and street shows.
The Wrong Size pictures of their duo silks act 'Plunge'

Gig of the Month

Gig if the month has to go this month to Steve Faulkner being repeated kicked up the backside by Danny from the Complimentary Complements Service and Circo Ridiculoso and my dad! The sketch on Bremner, Bird and Fortune last week made me laugh a lot. It was really nice to work with Vera again, definitely the nicest production company I have ever had the pleasure to work with.

Quote of the Month

This month goes to a performer who shall remain anonymous whilst trying to negotiate a contract with the BBC for him last week was heard to utter

"Can they send a car to collect me? I had a car when I was on Blue Peter you know."

I am of the opinion that Blue Peter should set a precedent for more things in life.

Have a great month and I look forward to seeing you at the show.

Warmest Regards

Anna
