MissingLinkProductions Newsletter June 2002...

News

Welcome to the June MissingLinkProductions newsletter on a very lovely English summers day on a very busy jubilee weekend.

The summer season has started and MissingLink and our performers are tremendously busy.

At the beginning of May I went down to Brighton for the National Street Arts Meeting. We had a stall at the street arts market and managed to see a huge array of performances. Performers who really stood out for me were Rin Tin Tin's wonderful stilt walking tea lady, Theatre of Adventure's percussion monkeys, Brink of Distinction's giant garden gnomes, Original Mixture's puppet characters and Dotcomedy's MisInformation Tent who spent at least fifteen minutes telling me where the toilets weren't. Mimbre's acrobatic street show was, as always, superb. The festival club ended with Woody Bop Muddy put on a fantastic performance with his Record Graveyard. I have never before seen such willing audience participation from a crowd of performers!

The following weekend I managed to watch the fabulous Circus Berzercus do their cabaret show which was a real pleasure to watch. With quality comedy, scripts and timing, these guys really know the art of performing.

You may have spotted the beautiful acrobalance of Heir of Insanity on the television coverage of Posh and Becks charity party a couple of weeks ago. There was some great footage of Mark Tate's stilt tree character frightening numerous celebrities. There are some new pictures of Heir of Insanity's new show Atlantis on the web site.

You may also have seen Melissa Merran and VIVA Aerial Dance recently performing on red silks for the new BBC ident.

News for performers is that I have been sent some news of a buskers competition in Bristol in July. Any performers who would like more information on this please do let me know.

One last piece of news worth mentioning is that I think an award should be given to the legendary Rumple Stiltskin for taking the longest possible time to put on make up and costume for an interview with the BBC.. which turned out to be a radio interview. The man had me crying with laughter at the Street Arts Meeting.

Web Site

There are two new acts which have been added to the web site this month. Bureau of Silly Ideas's Firehorses, a fantastic mix of fire and robotics in a street show or as a walkabout act, and the wonderful Sidney the Bin and Nancy la Poubelle - the amazing robotic wheelie bins which have to be seen to be believed.

There are also a lot of new pictures on the site this month. Bread and Butter Theatre Company have some new pictures of their walkabout characters Monsieur Matt Emulsion and Bill Insgate; comedy hat juggler (T)hat Juggler has some fantastic new pictures depicting his character and act; and the Legendary Lynn has some new pictures of her wonderful new stilt walking Carmen Miranda and her singing Palm Trees, which incorporates performers from Creature Feature and Rin Tin Tin.

Gig of the Month

This month we had the pleasure of organising a "'who is the most bendy?' competition between Jerry Hall and contortionist Delia du Sol for Graham Norton's show on Channel 4. Delia won hands down (and knees up) by folding into a 17" perspex box.

Quote of the Month

This month's quote comes from my lovely acupuncturist. When complaining to him about feeling tired and exhausted and asking him what I could do to restore my energy levels, he responded "Margaret Thatcher slept for two hours a night. Hitler slept for two hours a night. Winnie the Pooh, probably about fifteen." .

A point very well made. I hope you have a fantastic June.

Warm Regards

Anna
