MissingLinkProductions Newsletter July 2001...

News

Welcome to the summer! Britain finally amazed me by giving us some glorious show weather.

June has been a really busy month for us after the foot and mouth fiasco, outdoor events can finally be planned and more importantly people can get out and enjoy themselves again.

I started the month well by going to a fantastic show put on by Core Arts who facilitate arts access to people effected by mental illness. The fantastic Miniscule of Sound had their own room and a great set up. As always, they went down a storm. Comic Mark Thomas, who we have worked with for several years, also performed a very funny set. A great night was had by all.

The marvellous Winchester Hat Fair ended the month. I have been helping at the Hat Fair office for the past few weeks and it was great to see such a wonderful event unfurl. I really enjoyed getting to see some new acts and spend time with performers I rarely see over the summer months. Three Monkey Productions's Spanish cabaret, Dave Chameleon's silliness, the Wrong Size's White Light Ensemble and Strawberry's clowning made for a very entertaining weekend. Many thanks to Cat for putting such time and dedication into creating such a spectacular event.

This month I also saw the stunning new show by Pyromania entitled 'Embryonic Dreams'. This amazing piece of dance, theatre, pyrotechnics, film and acrobatics is certain to be a hit at The Edinburgh Fringe where it is playing at The Pleasance. Helen Kane will be performing her solo show 'Marilyin - I wanna be loved by you' at Komedia Southside during the festival. Also taking her solo show up to Edinburgh is Caroline Parker who is renowned for her signed song performances and workshops. 'Walking Amongst Sleepers' is performed in spoken word and British Sign Language at the Theatre Workshop throughout the festival.

On a similar note, in June I completed my Stage 2 British Sign Language which is something I hope to incorporate into more of our shows in the future.

Web Site

Added to the web site this month was the enthralling Mark Segal and his ladder walk of death.

New pictures of Curious Company, Kamelyan, Miss Behave, Strawberry and the Wrong Size have been added to the website.

Stickleback Plasticus also put in a special request for their over - enthusiastic ballroom dancers to be additionally listed under the 'Dance' category.

We have also added a section under performers services for people advertising for flexible part time jobs for those slow months.

Quote of the Month

"My life has been far happier since I have been in denial"
A philosephy to live by if ever I heard one, from one of my performers - you know who you are!

I hope you manage to get to spend some time relaxing in the sunshine over July.

Warm Regards

Anna
