News
Welcome to the July Missing Link newsletter.
Firstly I must apologise to those of you who have been awaiting
returned emails and phone calls over the last few weeks when we
have not been as on the ball as we would have liked. Unfortunately
a virus wiped both Lu and I out (I think I caught it from my computer)
and Glastonbury kept me out of the office and away from my emails.
Glastonbury Festival kept me on my toes and I managed to see lots
of circus acts there. We took the stunning Caroline
Parker with us where her sign language version of Bohemian
Rhapsody went down a storm in the cabaret and theatre tents. We
also took the very talented Mr Howie Bailey (who does all our video
work for us and who designed our gorgeous brochure) to VJ the circus
tent. They filmed acts whilst they were performing and played
around with visuals and projected them onto large screens. The
effects were mesmerising and enhanced the atmosphere of the tent.
A big thank you to Mr Ben for all his hard work.
There were lots of really good acts in the circus big top. I
had the pleasure of watching Tumble Circus doing their doubles trapeze.
It was a real breath of fresh air to see an aerial act which
is original, enjoyable and compulsive to watch. I also really
enjoyed watching Catrin from Aerial
Roots doing her sassy corde lisse routine.. Claredeloon's
aerial angel was both beautiful and fun to watch.
I really enjoyed watching the fantastic Strawberry
clowning show several times. Each time had me giggling and
smiling, which is no mean feat!
I was reminded how fantastically talented The Black Eagles were.
It really did look like they were just running at each other and
seeing where they would stick! I got to see a very slick acrobatic
act from Freefall which I really enjoyed watching (I do like a good
bit of tumbling).
The circus tent was topped off the by a wonderful cabaret show from
Swamp Circus featuring VIVA Aerial Dance
(the aerial silks girls from the BBC ident) and my
favourite trapeze boy and juggler Owen
Reynolds
In the outdoor circus field I had the pleasure of watching the gorgeous
female acrobatic trio Mimbre
performing their new street show Trip-tic, Three
Monkey Productions's bull circus street show, Cyberstein
the giant robot's street show (he's more than just a walkabout act
you know!), The Gandini's
performing their beautifully choreographed bounce juggling in their
giant glass cube and the wonderful comedy Marilyn tribute act 'Some
Like It Hotter' from Helen
Kane.
Unfortunately I did not manage to catch Stompy from Dotcomedy
doing his 'Half Naked Chef'. But I did over hear someone saying
it was the best show they had seen all year.
And then of course there was one of them most talked about features
of the festival, 'The World's Smallest Nightclub', The
Miniscule of Sound .
And that is even before I got around to the walkabout performers...
Fair Play
were performing their wonderful walkabout dodgy second hand car
salesmen (complete with dodgy cars) Ron and Don, Los
Kaos were performing their hilarious walkabout grannies
and people really loved them, Theatre
of Adventure were performing their wonderful 'Organ
Zola and Friends', which I loved - it was great to have a good old
sing-song of a Saturday afternoon, mixed with a wee bit of harassment.
Stickleback
Plasticus were cheering people up left, right, centre
and right through the alphabet with their over enthusiastic cheerleaders
and over enthusiastic ballroom dancers. I saw the fantastic
stilt robots from Freedom of Movement which can be seen on Legendary
Lynn's page of the web site. Original
Mixture were performing their fantastic walkabout puppeteer
characters 'The Newspaper Men', as were the beautiful stilt costumes
from Empress
Stilt Dance. Also spotted turning the tie-dye
to monochrome were 'BLITE' from The
Curious Eyebrows.
One of my favourite acts there had to be Creature
Feature's gorillas. These amazing lifelike beasts really
got the crowds going and it was great to watch the interaction between
them and the kids..
And my overall highlight of the festival had to be the closing act
of the cabaret tent on Sunday which was aptly described as The Woody
Bop Muddy Party.. Woody
Bop Muddy's 'Record Graveyard' stormed the show - and
he'll be picking rice out of his wig for weeks!
Web Site
We have lots of new pictures on the web site this month.
Heir of Insanity
have pictures of their gorgeous stilt bouncing Satyrs and their
acrobatic tree nymphs 'Treeo'.
Artizani
have some pictures of their tightrope walking angel added to their
page.
Contortion double act 'Jewel' have new pictures added to Delia
Du Sol's page on the web site, and finally Helen
Kane has new wording about her fantastic cabaret act
'Some Like it Hotter'.
Resignation of the Month
Well it really is true, she finally did it. Luisa has actually
upped and left me and the kids to fend for ourselves.
As she quite rightly pointed out, as soon as the chocolate in the
office ran out, so did she. She has left for the Kaman Islands,
I do not see what the attraction was myself. Lu. you are a
shining star, a valuable mate and the office just won't be the same
without you lass.
Have fab adventures Lu, and come back and see us really soon.
As she totters off into the sunset, a new lady arrives on the scene.
A warm welcome to Katie, who is hot on Luisa's trails. Be
very nice to her, she comes bearing biscuits...
Quote of the Month
A lovely uplifting quote this month form Gandhi (via Romany,
our fantastic female close-up high society magician):
"Be the change you want to see in the world."
Have a great month.
Warm Regards
Anna
