News
Welcome to the Missing Link Productions monthly newsletter. I
hope you are all enjoying your summer.
In last month's newsletter I got so carried away with all the Glastonbury
shows that I forgot to mention other shows I had seen! Most
strikingly I saw The Circus Space student show 'Circus Virus' which
was the best end of year show I have ever seen circus students put
on. It was a really enjoyable piece.
Also at The Circus Space I saw a fantastic cabaret. Heir
of Insanity performed their beautiful balletic balancing
act 'Breathe' and their doubles aerial hoop piece. The wonderful
over enthusiastic ballroom dancers Barry and Yvonne from Stickleback
Plasticus compered and there was a gracefully lazy
trapeze act from Grisho as well as comedy ping-pong ball juggling
from Rod Laver and his mouth!
This month I had the pleasure of seeing the beautiful Layla
performing aerial strops in Shunt's show 'Dance Bear Dance'. I
saw this show last year and though I enjoyed it then, they have
made some really good improvements and turned a good show into a
fantastic one.
This month some of you in the UK may have spotted our fantastic
caricaturist Andy
Davey in The Guardian over the past two weeks. Quick
witted and talented as ever, Andy made the editorial a lot more
pleasing on the eye!
A big thank you this month to all the performers who worked hard
in the rain at the Superbikes Championships at Brands Hatch. Angle-grinder
and stilt walker Kamelyan,
stilt walking beasts Los
Kaos, fire breathing robotics from Bureau of Silly Ideas,
stilt walking space babes Attention
Seekers and statuesque stilt walkers The
Wrong Size all went along to entertain the bikers.
A huge thank you also to our lovely stage manager Bobby Troman
for being the other half of my brain whilst I was in a muddy field
the other side of London.
A bit of a charity call to all performers with some time, motivation
and a conscience. Bill Brookman is putting together a circus
show next year to take out to Iraq after the massive success of
their trip to Kosovo this year. If you are interested in participating
please let me know and I will give you more details.
Missing Link are slowly getting more up to date with technology.
The fantastic juggler Owen
Reynolds has been editing down my videos for me to
small clips. This now means that most of the acts I have showreels
for have 10 second clips which are small enough to be emailed, so
this should be able to give clients a better idea of what they are
looking for. A big thank you to Owen for all his time and
please let me know if you would like to see any of them.
Web Site
More busy summer months have meant that there have not been as
many additions to the web site as I would have liked. However,
I have still managed to add a few new acts to the website.
We also have added the beautiful Empress
Stilt Dance who has some of the most stunning stilt
costumes I have seen in a long time.
We have added some new pictures of the fantastic comedy street show
'Some Like It Hotter' from Marilyn Monroe look-a-like Helen
Kane.
Aerial singing detective Clairedeloon
has some new pictures on her page of the website.
The lovely ladies from Brink
of Distinction have a new high class walkabout
about act called 'The Guide to Poise and Perfection' which we have
pictures of on the site. You too can learn the elegance of
walking with a jelly delicately balanced...
And last but not least, one of the girls from the BBC ident with
the ladies on the red silks, Melissa
Merran's page has been updated with some lovely pictures
of her swinging trapeze act.
Gig of the Month
Gig of the month has to go to all the lovely acts who worked for
us in the cabaret tent at WOMAD last weekend.
The cabaret had a superb line up of wonderful clowning from Clive
Andrews, the hilarious comedy chair balancing of The
Stretch People, fantastic Spanish comedy cabaret music
from Three Monkey Productions, beautiful balancing from Heir
of Insanity, and the wonderful rice fuelled mayhem
of Woody
Bop Muddy's 'Record Graveyard', all compered by the
lovely Kitty Candle AKA Lady Margo. A massive thank you to
all the performers involved for reminding me exactly why I do what
I do. .
Quote of the Month
Quote of the month really should go to the gentleman at Reading
train station who came out with the fantastic line, upon me reporting
that I had left my wallet on the train
"No, sorry, can't
help you. We used to help people, but we don't do that any
more.".
Have a great August
Warm Regards
Anna
