MissingLinkProductions Newsletter September 2001...

News

Welcome to the September MissingLinkProductions newsletter.

August was a very busy month for us. As well as having performers at festivals, shop openings and private parties up and down the UK, we managed to get www.CircusPerformers.com on line. Making the new web site took a lot of my time (sleep and brain capacity). It is similar to the old web site but it is out of frames. MissingLinkProductions.co.uk is will remain in use, however I will be submitting www.CircusPerformers.com to the search engines as a brand new web site. So hopefully our performers will be getting a lot more exposure. Please do let me know what you think of the new site.

Another major alteration to both web sites had to be made this month and that was to bar 'Smart Tags'. Microsoft have created an opt-out system (as opposed to an opt-in one) where they can choose certain words on your web site to link off to a web site of THEIR choice - and with a big Microsoft logo either side of the word. I thoroughly recommend putting the time into opting out of this if you have a web site you do not wish some one else to alter the design of. To opt-out you need to add the Meta tag

<meta name="MSSmartTagsPreventParsing"content"TRUE">

into your head tag on every page. If you would more information on this please drop me an email.

August was host to the Volcano Festival in Hackney where you could not move for performers! People who really stood out were (T)hat Juggler's juggling pristine routine and Layla's Turkish Trapeze Show.

An opportunity for some performers if you are interested, is that I have had a couple of photographers contact me in the last month asking if anyone would want pictures taken for free in return for them being able to expand their portfolio. If anyone is interested, please let me know.

Another opportunity for anyone based in the arts is a web site I discovered this month which is really helpful for researching funding is www.j4b.co.uk; you type in your criteria and the nature of your work and it tells you which funding bodies you are eligible for.

Web Site

Besides the new web site, then old one has a lot of new additions too.

The first of these is grouping the performers into themes to make life easier for event organisers. The current themes include Fairytale, History, Glamour, Heaven and Hell and Nature. If you have any more ideas or performers wish to be in a certain theme category which I have not thought of, please do let me know.

New acts on the web site are Complimentary Compliments Service, prepared to be flattered like you have never been flattered before by these walkabout characters.

Alterations to the web site have been some new pictures for Artemis and Rin Tin Tin. Maynard FlipFlap's main picture has been changed to his fantastic 'Man In A Box' as I think that gives more of an idea as to how great he is!

Kamelyan has been added to the Fakir section of the site and DotComedy's Surrealist Painters and Decorators have been added to the Artist Section. I have also taken the "The" prefix off all the acts names in the alphabetical listings, just in case some of you were wondering where you had moved to!

We have also added archive newsletters to the web site.

Gig of the Month

A big thank you to all the stilt walkers from The Curious Company, The Helter Skelter Girls and The Wrong Size for travelling to all corners of Britain for Orange's new shop M-Viron launches.

Quote of the Month

Not circus related at all this month, but it made me chuckle so much I thought I should share it. "If there was an Olympic category for queuing Britain would win hands down.". From Paul O'Grady, obviously.

Enjoy your September.
