MissingLinkProductions Newsletter October 2002...
News
Welcome to the October Missing Link newsletter. I hope that
September treated you all well.
Our big news this month is that at long last we have a brochure.
We shall continue to promote and use our website as the online
catalogue of performers and the brochure will be an accompaniment
to the CD ROM showreels we send out. Although the website
has worked really well for us so far, we realise that you cannot
beat having something glossy to flick through. We hope that
this will aid people in their decision making and their planning
to make their event an outstanding success. If you would like
a copy of the brochure, please do let me know.
September seemed to go by amazingly quickly and I think that this
mainly due to the fact that I managed to spend a week at Bristol
Circus Skills Convention having a lovely relaxing time with lovely
people. Big thanks to James for keeping and eye on things
whilst I was away and to Dave, John and Luke for all their help
with the show.
There were some amazingly skilled performers there and it was really
nice to watch people playing around with different props and practising
new tricks. Ben Cornish from Circus
Berzercus is always a real joy to watch toying with
new ideas, Stuart from The
Curious Eyebrows was doing some lovely tricks with
basketballs and Jason Perry from The
Wobbly Juggling Company was doing some really nice
runs with five clubs. There was some really fantastic hat
juggling from Danny which was very slick, and a really enjoyable
hat routine in the show from Irish trio Yellow Fever Foundation.
Last weekend I went to see Jonathan Graham's show 'Tumbling After'
which had some great performances in from
the upbeat playfulness of Mimbre's
acrobatic shows, as well as some wonderful aerial mowing from Will
Cleary.
Other news for us this month is that I have won the Anthony Everett
award for the 'Best Use of The Internet' from the Princes Trust.
Though I would love to spend the money on a long holiday on
a desert island, I think that it is more likely to get used for
brochure reprints!
Last month you may have received a virus warning from us saying
that someone was sending out a virus and using us as the return
address. We have since found out that in fact this only happens
when you already have the virus on your system. It randomly
plucks an address from your address book and marks them as the sender.
Though we would never knowingly send any viruses out, we would
certainly never send out any attachments without thoroughly explaining
them first. It is very rare that we would send anything other
than pdfs or jpegs as attachments with our emails. As with
every mail you get, if in doubt DO NOT OPEN IT. Anyone who
you can trust will be more than happy to explain what their attachments
are.
Performers news this month is that the number of performers is expanding!
Congratulations to Martin from The
Stretch People and Dominique from Wheel
in Motion on the birth of their baby girl and
Bob from The Complementary
Compliments Service and the lovely Zanni on the birth
of their son. Also warm regards and congratulations to my
mentor from the Princes Trust, Gary Morley on the birth of his son.
Other performers news this month is that Sam
Veale and Jamie from Fair
Play have both been doing work on the stand up comedy
circuit. Good luck to both of them for their continued success
with this.
I have been asked by a Japanese TV company if any of you are intending
to work at the Shizuoka street festival there this year. If
you are interested in some good publicity and are intending to go,
please do let me know.
I have another TV company who are looking for circus performers
from the Grampian area - if any of you fit into this category please
could you let me know.
I have also been asked to spread the word that Bath Spa University
College are looking for a part time physical theatre / circus skills
tutor. If you are interested in more information on this please
do get in touch with them directly or myself.
One final piece of performers' news is that I received a really
touching obituary of PB from stilt walking troupe Icarus. PB
was a very special man who touched a lot of people. If any of you
have not read the obituary and would like me to forward it on to
you, please do let me know.
Web Site
I have not had much time to work on the website this month, but
there have still been a few additions.
The wonderful characters of Artizani have
gone up on the site. Artizani do wonderful rowabout
act called 'Punt', which a boat to glide through the aisles of your
event which two wonderful characters on board. They also have
some stilt walking crickets and the comical scootering cherubs to
bring cupid to your event.
Lucy Francis
has also had some new pictures of her aerial and balancing act put
on the site. Lucy is not too well at the moment, but
I hear that she is making am astoundingly quick recovery. All
here at Missing Link send her lots of love for a rapid restoration
to full health.
Quote of the Month
This month's quote comes from an old friend who has a passion for
special words too, especially ones about the little things we tend
to forget, he forwarded this lovely quote onto me a while back...
"Very little is needed to make a happy life; it is all
within yourself, in your way of thinking." - Marcus Aurelius
Antoninus
One last thing is that I am going to be working in Japan with Jon
Hicks, Artist in Action, an amazing street artist,
from 14th October to 25th October. Though I am hoping to have
access to my emails whilst I am there, please bear with me if things
are not quite as swift as we would like.
Enjoy your October.
